Vladimir Guerrero Jr. picked up three hits and scored twice in an 8-5 win over the Angels on Thursday.
Guerrero also drew a walk. It gives the first baseman multiple hits in back-to-back games, and it’s the third time in May that he’s reached that mark. That’s helped raise his average from .268 to .295, and the only thing fantasy managers can be disappointed with is his .432 slugging percentage. That number should continue to climb as the season unfolds, but Vladdy Jr. has had some inconsistent seasons when it comes to power production.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. crushed a go-ahead three-run homer in the eighth inning on Thursday, propelling the Blue Jays to a 4-2 victory over the Red Sox.
The Blue Jays didn’t score their first run of the game until Daulton Varsho swatted a solo homer in the seventh inning. Guerrero then gave them their first lead with a 404-foot (111.8 mph EV) three-run shot off of Justin Slaten that proved to be the difference in the ballgame. He finished the night 1-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts and is now hitting .267/.358/.422 with four homers and 17 RBI on the season.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went 2-for-3 with his first homer and a walk against the Braves on Wednesday.
It took Guerrero’s seventh barrel of the year to finally get him his first homer, which came off Spencer Strider in the sixth. Even though his groundball rate is a bit lower than usual, Guerrero’s 33 hard-hit balls this season have produced a total of five extra-base hits. Statcast gave him an xSLG of .494, compared to an actual figure of .333, entering today.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will get Thursday off against the Red Sox.
Guerrero Jr. will get his first day off of the season for the series finale against the Red Sox. Will Wagner will hit fifth and play first base while Vladdy Jr. takes a break.
